Cranes and Derricks (BC 3319)
NYC Building Code § BC 3319; 1 RCNY § 3319-01
Section BC 3319 of the NYC Building Code, implemented by rule 1 RCNY 3319-01, governs the design, permitting, installation, inspection, maintenance, operation, and use of cranes and derricks used for construction, demolition, excavation, and hoisting/rigging. No owner, equipment user, or other person may use or operate a crane or derrick that does not possess and conform to a certificate of approval, certificate of operation, and certificate of on-site inspection. Lift directors must be designated to perform duties including ensuring compliance with approved plans, traffic and pedestrian controls, and weather restrictions.
