NYC Building Code BC 3310 (Site Safety); 1 RCNY § 3310-01; major-building definition at BC 202
NYC Building Code BC 3310 requires a site safety manager or site safety coordinator to be designated and present for the construction or demolition of a major building (BC 3310.5), and bars issuance of a permit for major-building construction or demolition — or for a facade alteration when a sidewalk shed is required — until the Department approves a site safety plan (BC 3310.3); rule 1 RCNY 3310-01 sets out the duties of these site safety personnel. Under BC 202, as amended by Local Law 147 of 2021 effective December 11, 2024, a "major building" is generally a building 7 or more stories or 75 feet or more in height, or with a building footprint of 100,000 square feet or more (or one the Commissioner designates due to unique hazards).
