Approval of Materials
NYC Admin. Code Title 28, Ch. 1, Art. 113 (§§ 28-113.1 through 28-113.5)
Under NYC Administrative Code Article 113, materials must be used, tested, and approved in accordance with the Construction Codes and Department rules; materials specifically prescribed by the code or rules may be used without prior approval (§ 28-113.2), but where an approved material is required, it may not be used without the Commissioner's prior approval and only to the extent set forth in that approval (§ 28-113.2.1). Alternative materials, designs, methods of construction, or equipment must be approved where the Commissioner finds them at least the equivalent of the prescribed code requirements in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability, and safety (§ 28-113.2.2).
