3 RCNY § 113-02 (Fire and Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness)
FDNY rule 3 RCNY § 113-02 sets the standards, qualification/experience requirements, and examination and registration procedures for the Fire and Life Safety (FLS) Director certificate of fitness required to direct fire safety and non-fire emergency operations in occupancies that must be staffed by such a director (those formerly requiring a fire safety director or fire safety/EAP director). Applicants must have at least three years of qualifying full-time work experience (or 18 months including six continuous months at one location), complete an FDNY-accredited FLS director training course, and pass the written fire-safety and non-fire-emergency examination components plus an on-site/practical examination; the certificate must be registered for each work location where the holder serves.
