Suffolk County Sanitary Code, Article 18 (§§ 760-1801 et seq.)
Suffolk County Department of Health Services regulation governing petroleum bulk storage (PBS) facilities. It requires registration of aboveground (AST) and underground (UST) petroleum storage tank systems and a Permit to Construct / Permit to Operate (or Interim Permit to Operate) from the Department before petroleum is first received into a new, substantially repaired, or modified tank system. Patterned on and using numbering comparable to 6 NYCRR Part 613 (Petroleum Bulk Storage), it imposes county tank design, monitoring, and leak-prevention standards to protect groundwater. (Non-petroleum toxic or hazardous chemical bulk storage is governed separately by Article 12, not Article 18.)
