29 CFR 1926.1427
Under Subpart CC (Cranes and Derricks in Construction), employers must ensure each crane operator is trained, certified or licensed, and evaluated before operating covered equipment, with required certification or licensure provided at no cost to the employee. Certification may be obtained through a nationally accredited crane-operator testing organization, an audited employer program, a U.S. military operator qualification (military employees only), or a qualifying state or local government license, and the employer must document each operator evaluation (operator name, evaluator name and signature, date, and equipment make/model/configuration).
