Establishes a permissible exposure limit (PEL) for respirable crystalline silica in construction of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air as an 8-hour time-weighted average, with an action level of 25 micrograms per cubic meter as an 8-hour TWA. Employers must control exposures using either the Table 1 specified exposure control methods or an exposure assessment, implement a written exposure control plan that includes procedures to restrict access to high-exposure work areas, provide medical surveillance for covered employees, and train workers on silica hazards and controls. Construction compliance obligations commenced June 23, 2017.
