Title VI (24 CFR Part 1)

24 CFR Part 1

HUD's regulation effectuating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000d). It prohibits any recipient of HUD federal financial assistance from excluding, denying benefits to, or otherwise discriminating against any person on the ground of race, color, or national origin in housing, accommodations, facilities, services, financial aid, or other benefits (§1.4). Where a recipient has previously discriminated, it must take affirmative action to overcome the effects of that prior discrimination; even absent prior discrimination, a recipient should take affirmative action to overcome conditions that limited participation by persons of a particular race, color, or national origin (§1.4(b)(6)).
