Westchester County Sanitary Code (Part XI, Ch. 873), Art. VIII (Sewerage, Sewage and Refuse)
Article VIII of the Westchester County Sanitary Code (Part XI, Chapter 873) governs sewerage, sewage and refuse, including the permitting, construction, repair and operation of onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS/septic) for properties not served by public sewers, and the licensing of septic system contractors and septage collectors by the County Commissioner of Health. No person may construct, install, replace, or repair an OWTS without prior written approval from the commissioner (§873.726), and the County Department of Health inspects such systems; connection to public sewers is required where available (§§873.727–873.729).
