NYS Existing Building Code (EBCNYS)
19 NYCRR Part 1227
19 NYCRR Part 1227 ("Existing Buildings") requires that the repair, alteration, change of occupancy, addition to, and relocation of existing buildings comply with the Existing Building Code of New York State (EBCNYS), which it incorporates by reference. The EBCNYS is the New York State-amended version of the International Existing Building Code and provides prescriptive, work-area/work-classification, and performance compliance pathways for renovation and rehabilitation of existing structures. It is part of the statewide Uniform Code and applies throughout New York State outside New York City. As of December 31, 2025, Part 1227 incorporates the 2025 EBCNYS (based on the 2024 IEBC), which replaced the prior 2020 EBCNYS edition (based on the 2018 IEBC) following the Code Council's repeal of the 2020 Uniform Code.
