NYC Admin. Code Title 26, Ch. 32 §§ 26-3201 to 26-3203 (Local Law 18 of 2022)
Chapter 32 of Title 26 of the NYC Administrative Code, added by Local Law 18 of 2022, makes it unlawful for a booking service (such as Airbnb, Vrbo, or Booking.com) to charge, collect, or receive any fee in connection with a short-term rental unless it has first used the Office of Special Enforcement's electronic verification system to confirm the rental is associated with a currently valid short-term rental registration number (or is an excluded Class B multiple dwelling on the city's list). Each prohibited transaction subjects the booking service to a civil penalty of not more than $1,500, or up to three times the fee charged if that amount can be established. Enforcement of these booking-service requirements began September 5, 2023.
