NYC Admin. Code Title 26, Ch. 31 (Registration Requirements for Short-Term Rentals), §§ 26-3101 et seq. (Local Law 18 of 2022)
Local Law 18 of 2022 added Chapter 31 to Title 26 of the NYC Administrative Code, requiring any host who offers a short-term rental (a rental of fewer than 30 consecutive days of a dwelling unit) to register with the Mayor's Office of Special Enforcement (OSE) before a booking platform may process the transaction (§ 26-3102). Lawful short-term rentals are conditioned on the host residing in the unit, being physically present during the stay, and hosting no more than two guests who maintain a common household with the host. Enforcement began September 5, 2023, and the law remains active.
