Truth in Renting Distribution

N.J.S.A. 46:8-46

Under the Truth-in-Renting Act (N.J.S.A. 46:8-43 et seq.), every landlord must distribute one copy of the DCA-prepared statement of established tenant rights and landlord responsibilities to each tenant within 30 days after the department makes it available, provide a copy of the current statement to each new tenant at or before the time occupancy is assumed, and keep a current copy posted in one or more prominent, accessible locations. Any landlord who violates the act is liable to a penalty of not more than $100 for each offense under N.J.S.A. 46:8-47.
