Security Deposit Limit

N.J.S.A. 46:8-21.2

A landlord may not require a security deposit greater than one and one-half times one month's rent for residential property. Whenever a landlord later collects additional security from a tenant, the amount collected annually as additional security may not exceed 10 percent of the current security deposit.
