N.J.A.C. 5:70-4.19
Sets the device standards underlying the Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.3) for one- and two-family dwellings: smoke alarms on each level and outside each separate sleeping area (ten-year sealed battery single-station units listed to ANSI/UL 217 as of January 1, 2019, unless original AC-powered alarms remain); single-station carbon monoxide alarms (UL 2034, per NFPA 720) in the immediate vicinity of the sleeping areas, except in buildings with no fuel-burning device and no attached garage; and a listed 2A-10B:C portable fire extinguisher (no more than 10 pounds, serviced/tagged within the past 12 months) mounted within 10 feet of the kitchen in the path of egress.
