The CFPB's Regulation B implements the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (15 U.S.C. 1691 et seq.), prohibiting creditors—including mortgage lenders—from discriminating against any applicant on a prohibited basis (race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, receipt of income from a public assistance program, or good-faith exercise of any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act) regarding any aspect of a credit transaction. It also bars discouraging applicants or prospective applicants on a prohibited basis and governs application procedures, notification of action taken (including adverse-action notices), and appraisal disclosures.
