HMC Heat Requirement
NYC Admin. Code § 27-2029 (Housing Maintenance Code, Title 27, Ch. 2, Subch. 2, Art. 8 — Heat, Cooling, and Hot Water)
Under NYC Admin. Code § 27-2029, owners of multiple dwellings (and tenant-occupied 1-2 family dwellings) must maintain heat during the heat season, October 1 through May 31. From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the indoor temperature must be at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit whenever the outdoor temperature falls below 55 degrees; from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., the indoor temperature must be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit regardless of the outdoor temperature.
