N.J.S.A. 45:15-1
Prohibits any person from engaging, directly or indirectly, in the business of a real estate broker, broker-salesperson, salesperson, or referral agent in New Jersey, or from advertising or representing themselves as authorized to act as such or to engage in any activity described in R.S.45:15-3, without holding a license issued by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission. The companion section N.J.S.A. 45:15-3 defines the compensated activities (listing, selling, exchanging, buying, renting, negotiating, or collecting rent for real estate, performed for a fee, commission, or other valuable consideration) that constitute the real estate business, and bars any unlicensed person from bringing a court action to collect compensation for performing those acts.
