Window Guards (Art. 131)
NYC Health Code (24 RCNY) § 131.15 (Article 131)
Under NYC Health Code § 131.15 (within 24 RCNY Article 131), owners/managers of multiple dwellings (buildings with three or more apartments, including condos and co-ops) must install and maintain approved window guards on the windows of each apartment where a child 10 years of age or under resides, and on windows in the public halls of such a building, except windows giving access to a fire escape or a required first-floor means of egress. Owners must deliver an annual notice (under 24 RCNY Chapter 12) asking whether such a child resides in the unit or whether guards are wanted, and must install guards upon an affirmative response or any tenant's written request.
