N.Y. Executive Law § 378(5-a)
Executive Law § 378(5-a), enacted as Amanda's Law (Chapter 367 of the Laws of 2009) and effective February 22, 2010, directs the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council to set installation standards requiring an operable carbon monoxide detector in every one- or two-family dwelling, dwelling accommodation in a condominium or cooperative, and multiple dwelling. The detector is required only where the dwelling unit has appliances, devices or systems that may emit carbon monoxide or has an attached garage; the law applies regardless of the building's construction or sale date.
