N.Y. Exec. Law § 296(5)
New York Executive Law § 296(5), part of the State Human Rights Law, makes it unlawful to refuse to sell, rent, or lease a housing accommodation, or to discriminate in its terms, because of an individual's protected status; effective April 12, 2019, the protected categories include "lawful source of income," which the statute defines to include child support, alimony, foster care subsidies, Social Security/SSI, and any federal, state, or local public assistance or housing assistance such as Section 8 vouchers. It applies to NYC housing alongside the NYC Human Rights Law and is enforced by the NYS Division of Human Rights.
