Owners of income-producing property with an actual assessed value above $40,000 on the tentative assessment roll must annually file a Real Property Income and Expense (RPIE) statement, or a claim of exclusion, electronically with the Department of Finance, generally on or before June 1. The Department of Finance uses this data to value the property for the following tax year, and failure to file timely results in penalties of up to 5% of the property's actual assessed value, increasing for each year a statement remains unfiled (penalties becoming a lien on the property).
