Nassau County Public Health Ordinance art. X
Article X of the Nassau County Public Health Ordinance, administered by the Nassau County Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Engineering, governs development and on-site sewage disposal within designated Special Groundwater Protection Areas (SGPAs). In SGPAs, residential development is limited to one dwelling per 40,000 square feet, and non-residential development is capped at an average daily design sewage rate of no more than 0.00375 gallons per square foot of net area, with industrial wastewater discharge prohibited. Owners/developers must obtain Department approval of plans (designed by a New York State licensed professional engineer) before constructing or modifying an on-site sewage disposal system, and must obtain a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit before discharging sanitary waste to the ground.
